What or Who is ED? What do we mean by equality and diversity?
2
Equality Equality does not mean ‘everybody being the same’. It is about recognising that everybody is different, yet treating everyone with an equal level of respect. It is about ensuring everyone has equal access to employment, education, goods, services and facilities.
3
Diversity Diversity takes things a step further. It is about recognising, respecting, valuing and drawing on the positive aspects of differences. It recognises the contribution every individual makes. It promotes dignity and respect.

ED includes…. ED Disability Gender Reassignment Marriage & Civil Partnership Pregnancy & Maternity Race Religion & Belief Gender Sexual Orientation

Breaking down the barriers – don’t make assumptions…. Making assumptions about people can lead to: Prejudice – Making your mind up about someone before getting to know them Stereotyping – assuming that everyone with similar characteristics is the same Discrimination – treating people differently because of your beliefs
7
Get to know people Don’t assume that a person’s appearance defines their nationality or cultural background, religion, belief or sexual orientation. Find out how people would like to be treated – what they prefer to be called, the terms they use to describe themselves Gain a better understanding of people’s experiences and learn more before judging.
