Sharma 23.05.07 Art. 6 UIC Statutes Each Regional Assembly shall a.elect its Chairman, a first Vice-Chairman and a second Vice-Chairman among the active members from the region* for a two-year term,* b.initiate and/or approve projects/activities addressing specific issues of its respective regional area and the associated contributions to be financed at regional level, c.approve its regional fee, d.approve its regional budget, e.coordinate regional issues and make recommendations to the General Assembly regarding the location of its regional unit(s) as well as other matters concerning it, f.address the Executive Board for strategic projects and/or activities at global level as common interest projects and/or activities and perform the role of implementers of such projects and/or activities in their regional dimension, g.report to the General Assembly on its activities, h.recommend study projects through the active members of its region in the UIC Forums and Platforms. Governance a.Regional assemblies shall work on an autonomous basis with the active support of UIC HQ. b.Suiting their needs and the practicalities involved, Regional Assemblies may create a suitable governing structure which shall invariably include the Chairman and the two Vice-Chairmen of the Regional Assembly. c.This governing structure, if created by a Regional Assembly shall be called the “Management Committee” for the region concerned. It will draw its mandate from the Regional Assembly. d.Concerning the management of regional issues, each Regional Assembly shall decide its process of decision making. ** In the case of non availability of an active member from the region, Regional Assemblies may select the representative members from the region among the associate members.

Sharma 23.05.07 Respective roles Overall UIC-HQ responsibility: jointly shared by Chief Executive and Deputy Chief Executive Maintaining and enhancing UIC’s role at European level: to be led by the Chief Executive Developing UIC’s global dimension: to be led by the Deputy Chief Executive Establishing the efficient functioning of the regional assemblies (other than Europe) and regional units: to be led by the Deputy Chief Executive along with respective regional coordinators

Sharma 23.05.07 Role of competence centres Establish UIC’s pole position in the respective field through its product portofolio Ensure members are having benchmarking indices in the respective fields Develop a pro active program to identify the future needs in the respective field Bridge the knowledge/experience gap among UIC members from different regions Achieve UIC’s role as the important reference in respective competence

Sharma 23.05.07 Role of the regional coordinator Continue and develop the strategy in place for the concerned region Assist in professional development of the regional units to develop and manage regional activities/projects Develop small group of senior managers from the region to lead specific activities Identify the potential links between the regional needs and the various projects/activities of UIC forums and platforms
