Expansion Joints
2
Expansion Joints...What are they? An expansion joint is an assembly designed to safely: *absorb the heat-induced expansion and contraction of various construction materials,heat-induced expansion *to absorb vibration, *to allow movement due to ground settlement or earthquakes.
3
Where are they found? They are commonly found between sections of sidewalks, bridges, railway tracks, piping systems, and other structures.sidewalksbridgesrailway tracks
4
What happens if you don’t have an expansion joint? Before expansion joint gaps were built into these structures, they would crack under the stress induced.
5
What do they look like? The expansion joint can be as simple as a caulked separation between two sections of the same materials.
6
Expansion joints Necessary for many common structures and buildings. Help in heat induced expansion and contraction, absorb vibrations and allow movement
