Some interesting facts from 2012

The world’s developing countries will be where nearly all future population growth will take place. The greatest percentage change will be in the poorest countries.

There will be little or no growth in the population of developed countries during this century. Any growth is likely to come from immigration from developing countries.

Europe is likely to be the first region in history to see long- term population decline. Predictions are of a drop from 740 million people in 2012 to 732 million people in 2050.

The developing countries of Asia, Africa and South America account for 97% of world population growth. This is mainly due to their continuing high birth rates and youthful populations.

There are 25 countries in Africa where women have on average more than five children. In Niger it is more than 7. The current average number of children per woman in the world is 2.4
