3 Netherlands (Holland) Much of the land in the Netherlands depends on dikes to keep the water out.

4 dike a thick wall built to hold back water

5 windmill Wind turns the blades on the windmill to use wind power for a variety of things, like pumping water, grinding corn, driving small sawmills, and driving electrical generators to make electricity.

6 gurgling The gurgling sound of water moving over the rocks in the stream was very calming. ( making a sound like a bubbling liquid )

7 ( having no feeling, as if asleep ) My toes are numb from being so cold. numb

8 trickling The water was trickling down from the melting icicle ( like a liquid that is falling or flowing drop by drop )

9 hero Jack was a hero of the basketball game because of scoring the winning basket. ( a person who is honored because of a brave or courageous act )

10 gushing The water came gushing out of the broken dam. ( pouring out suddenly and in large amounts )

11 rumbling You can hear the thunder rumbling during the thunderstorm. ( making a heavy deep rolling sound )

12 rumbling trickling gurgling gushing numb hero
