The Pattern Tool Dr. Crown MECE 1221.A Noe De La Cerda Aleida Lopez Manuel Rivas Joe Villanueva

Objectives To show what a pattern tool is. Why the pattern tool should be used. How to use the pattern tool.

The name says it all… It is used to create a pattern by using copies (instances) of an already made feature (leader) in a Pro/E drawing making life simpler There are four types: DimensionFillAxisDirection

The pattern tool saves time Using the pattern tool will save you time and work when an object with several, if not hundreds, of features such as holes or extrusions are needed to be made repeatedly.

The dimension pattern tool The dimension pattern tool is best when several cuts or shafts are needed in a straight line or throughout a part.

Dimension Pattern After you create your object, you make the leader (the feature you want to repeat) You right click the leader and select Pattern.

Dimension Pattern Click on the dimensions tab and a menu will pop up. In this menu you choose dimension.

Dimension Pattern You click at the bottom how many instances (copies of the leader) you want. If you want to create more instances in a second direction, you do that in “Direction 2” in the Dimensions menu where you first modified “Direction 1” –This has a similar effect to the Fill pattern function.

The fill pattern: useful for large surfaces When you need to cover an entire surface with instances, the fill pattern tool is more effective and time saving. After creating your object and the leader, click on the pattern tool, selecting ‘Fill’ instead of ‘Dimension’. The next step is to create a sketch of the area you want the instances to cover or fill.

There are several shapes you can use in the fill pattern. SquareDiamondTriangleCircleCurveSpiral

You can adjust the spacing and the angle you want your fill pattern to do. Click on the green check and you are done.

The axis pattern tool The axis pattern tool is useful when drawing objects that require a part to be patterned around a certain axis. For example: Gears, Wheels, etc.

Direction tool The direction pattern tool is used when a certain part of an object needs to be repeated in a certain direction. Some examples would include handle grips, vents, etc.
