Group Discussion Prompts Group I: How would you explain the concept of a free and equal person to a high school student? Why is this concept important for a student to know and how will it help them understand community action? Group II: How would you explain a well-ordered society and its implications to a community organizer focused on education? Group III: How would you explain societies as fair systems of cooperation to different actors in educational settings [teachers, administrators and parents]? Why would it be beneficial for persons in these roles to be familiar with this idea?

Things to Think About How can we apply the idea of a well-ordered society to successful grassroots movements? What concepts in this first section of the Rawls reading are relevant to the Montgomery bus boycott case-study? In what ways might these ideas be applied to educational policy? As a teacher, how could you integrate these ideas into teaching practice?
