One who lives in pleasure (1 Timothy 5:6) Those who give into lust (James 1:15) Slaves to sin (Romans 6:20-21) Entire churches relying on reputation (Revelation 3:1) The wages of sin is Death! (Romans 6:23)

Is he describing his pre-Christian life? –A Christian is not “sold under sin” (Rom. 6:14) –A Christian is not captive to the law of sin (8:2) –Paul had been delivered from the Law of Moses that brought death (7:4-6) Is he describing his life as a Christian? –He speaks in the present tense (7:19) –Christians do struggle with sin (1 John 1:8) –Christians experience an inner conflict between flesh and spirit (Galatians 5:16-18)

Paul is speaking of his fleshly self ANYTIME he follows it! –Note the personal pronouns in the context. –The flesh can be a problem for both the saved and the unsaved (Galatians 5:13; Eph. 2:3) –“Flesh” is the earthly, carnal side of a person. –The flesh is to be crucified in baptism, but it can revive in the life of a Christian (Romans 6:3-6, 12-19)

God gives a law -- a law that is good and spiritual. (Romans 7:7, 12, 14) Sin uses the law against me (Romans 7:14-20, 24) Although sin is strong, I am still responsible (Romans 2:4-11; 3:23) Sin wins the conflict in my flesh (1 Peter 2:11; Galatians 5:17)

Deliverance comes through Christ (Romans 7:25) The power to kill the flesh resides in Christ (Romans 8:3-4, 10) Those who belong to Christ have crucified the flesh (Galatians 5:24) The choice is ours! (Colossians 2:11-12; Romans 8:13; 13:14)
