4 1.Describe the situation in Israel: After WWII, Jews sought Palestine for safety. In 1947 the UN divided Palestine in two states: Israel and Palestine. Each state began attacking one another. The U.S. supported Israel and the USSR supported the Arab neighbors

5 2. Describe the situation in Iran : 1952, a nationalist leader gained control in Iran. The U.S. feared this new government would be pro Communism so the US helped overthrow that government and restored the pro-American Shah to power

6 3. Describe the Suez Crisis in Egypt: 1956 USA cut off aid to Egypt after rule Nasser sought help from USSR. Nasser responded by seizing British-owned Suez Canal. Late 1956 British and French attacked Egypt to regain control of the canal.
