APRIL HEALTHY BODY: SCOLIOSIS o Cooke Elementary School Auditorium-Virginia Beach, VA o April 30, 2015 from 5-8PM o Free to parents with children age 10-15 o Registered nurses will provide scoliosis screenings and information regarding scoliosis o Scoliosis causes curvature of the spine which sometimes requires surgery to correct

MAY NUTRITION AND WELLNESS o Warwick High School Gym-Newport News, VA o May 13, 2015 @ 6PM o Free to parents and school age children o Speaker: Physical therapist o Unhealthy nutrition habits can lead to obesity, diabetes, and metabolic issues, among other problems o Information will be provided about healthy eating in children and adolescents, so please join us!

JUNE TEENS AND NICOTINE o Great Bridge Intermediate School Auditorium-Chesapeake, VA o June 6, 2015 @ 7PM o Free to parents and school age children o Speaker: Registered nurse and counselor o In 2012, 6.7% of middle school and 23.3% of high school students currently used tobacco products, including electronic cigarettes o Individual counseling can be a big help for smokers who are trying to quit. Just under 11% of smokers are able to quit without some type of therapy, according to the latest U.S. Public Health Service (USPHS) guidelines. But one-on-one counseling increases the average success rate to nearly 17%. o Information regarding smoking: dangers, peer pressure, how to quit o Please come out to this important informational session!

JULY CHILDHOOD OBESITY o Park View Elementary School Cafeteria-Portsmouth, VA o July 21, 2015 @ 6PM o Free to parents and school age children o Speaker: Counselor o In 2012, more than one third of children and adolescents were overweight or obese - come out to our informational session to learn how we can put an end to childhood obesity o Information on childhood obesity and associated health issues will be provided, please join us!

AUGUST TEENS AND TWEENS: DRUG AND ALCOHOL FREE o Landstown High School Cafeteria-Virginia Beach, VA o August 29, 2015 @ 6:30PM o Free to parents and school age children o Speaker: Registered nurse and counselor o Drugs use including marijuana has remained steady or unchanged since 1991, please come join us for this powerful informational session! o Information on drug and alcohol abuse in school age children will be discussed

SEPTEMBER FLU VACCINATIONS o Blair Middle School Gym-Norfolk, VA o September 12, 2015 from 2-8PM o $5 flu vaccinations will be offered to children o Speaker: Registered nurse o Flu season starts in September, get an early jump on the flu vaccination! A registered nurse will be on site to provide information regarding the flu and vaccination o Flu shots will be offered to children for a $5 fee

OCTOBER NATIONAL DENTAL HYGIENE MONTH o First Colonial High School Gym-Virginia Beach, VA o October 18, 2015 from 9AM-5PM o Free dental screenings will be offered to children and fluoride varnish will be applied for a $5 fee o Speaker: Registered dental hygienist o 23% of children age 2-11 have untreated dental caries (cavities). 21% of children age 6-11 have caries in their permanent teeth! o A registered dental hygienist will be on site to provide oral screenings free of charge to children o Fluoride varnish will also be applied to children for $5 to help prevent cavities, you will not want to miss this interactive informational session!

NOVEMBER NATIONAL DIABETES MONTH o Maury High School Auditorium-Norfolk, VA o November 10, 2015 6:30PM o Free to parents and school age children o Speaker: Registered nurse and dental hygienist o Obesity in children is growing in prevalence and associated issues including diabetes have lifelong consequences that even effect the oral cavity o A registered nurse and dental hygienist will be on site to provide information on diabetes and associated dental related problems, please add this to your calendar!

JANUARY EXERCISE AND YOUR HEALTH o Holland Elementary School Auditorium-Virginia Beach, VA o January 20, 2016 @ 7PM o Free to parents and school age children o Speaker: Physical therapist o Excess weight among children and adolescents is linked to emerging health hazards that include respiratory complications, cardiovascular risks, diabetes Type 2, sleep problems, metabolic disorders, and psychological health risks. Come out and get more information on the importance of exercise in children and adolescents! o Information on exercise and physical activity to keep children healthy

FEBRUARY CHILDREN’S DENTAL HEALTH MONTH o Granby High School Gym-Norfolk, VA o February 20, 2016 from 8AM-6PM o $5 Dental sealants for school children age 6-18 o Dental Hygienists on site o Licensed dental hygienists will apply dental sealants to qualifying teeth (completely erupted, free of decay) o Dental sealants help prevent decay in susceptible permanent molars in children and adolescents, so please come out to this interactive information session!

MARCH MENTAL HEALTH: ADHD AND ADD o Merrimack Elementary School Gym-Hampton, VA o March 11, 2016 @ 5:30PM o Free to parents of school age children o Speaker: Counselor o Parent will receive information regarding ADHD and ADD o Children with ADD/ADHA may be: o Inattentive, but not hyperactive or impulsive. o Hyperactive and impulsive, but able to pay attention. o Inattentive, hyperactive, and impulsive (the most common form of ADD/ADHD). o Please join us!
