Concepts that empower project managers Project Simulation Flow Designed and written By C. W. Marimbe
2
Variables and attributes No two or more projects share exactly the same set of variables. They can have similar attributes but can never be identical project character factors. PROJECT 1PROJECT 2
3
Success The success of complex and high risk projects depends on a good plan foundation, and the right project spirit which simulates the inception to complexion of almost all possible activities that will be encountered during its life spun as defined by information factors. Project Inception Information factors Project Complexion Information factors PLAN FOUNDATION PROJECT SPIRIT
4
To create a solid simulation ….prior to commencing activities, the same principals that govern land survey can be borrowed: An initial set of reference points should be created/established with known coordinates, all preceding points should constantly make reference to (set of points) in order to accurately demarcate the desired path. Case study 1 Case study 2 Reference points Preceding Project Points Project flow
5
In this case the set of points will be the project activities. The known coordinates will be the values of initial activities in a reference case study; or a set of values from the first completed set of activities for the project in progress. All preceding activities will be compared against the simulated activities on the simulation flow chart. Any variations to the theoretical points already on the chart will be given a positive or a negative attribute depending on which side of the simulation path they fall. This will enable appropriate adjustments to be proposed for those activities which have yet to be executed. This enables the overall project target to remain within reach without compromising the overall outcome of the project.

RISK INCEPTION (ACTUAL PROJECT ACTIVITY PATH) KNOWN PNTS OF REFERENCE: (ACTIVITIES) THEORATIC SIMULATION QUALITY UTOPIA POINT COMPLETION ACTUAL PROJECT ACTIVITY PATH Project Simulation Flow Chart
7
End notes Attributes can be composed of one or more of the following but are not limited to this list; -visual perception and authenticity -initial goal -consumer target -physical nature -financial composition -quality/volume based
8
Character factors are almost always non- tangible in nature but owe a large component of their composition to past experiences. The project spirit is a character which means; the essential purpose of a project as radiated by an individual manager solely or with the help of his management team. - This has dynamic attributes which are mainly based on the ability to borrow from past experiences and apply an animalistic killer instinct approach to immediate non-quantified/unqualified variables.
9
Information factors means getting facts – timely, accurately about the reality of conditions and circumstances in the project situation; they also encompass the giving out of perceptions to create the right climate. Utopia point; this is the point of project planning and implementation perfection. The simulated project flow intersects the actual project path resulting in the simulated risk/quality point giving the same values as the actual activity path.
