4. Pollen  Pollen is the “sperm” for plants  It’s in thick-coated grains that allow it to live in diverse land habitats  With the help from wind, weather, and animals such as the bumble bee the pollen can travel for miles.

5. Adaptations  Trees have thick bark to protect themselves from cold winters.  Epiphytes such as mosses and ferns grow atop other plants to reach light.  Some plants are dark in color to absorb heat and they may grow in clumps to protect against the winters.

6. Complex or Simple?  Complex, because the plants are all multicellular and they consist of complex cells.  There are over 250,000 species of plants, making the plant kingdom the second largest kingdom.

7. Facts  With the help of fungi and protists, plants provide the food we eat (whether directly or indirectly) and the oxygen we breath.  Plants are classified into 12 “phyla”/ divisions.
