Flowers, we wonder how many of them you have seen in the meadows. Here is what we observed by studying a primrose:
2
The petals are placed on different levels, in particular the first to be born are petals 1 e 2, placed on the same level, then the petal number 3, placed on another level, and finally petals 4 and 5, placed on a third level.
3
By measuring the angle that is formed by the petals placed on the same levels, we find out that this angle is about 140° wide, and by repeating this measure on different primroses we discovered that this is the angle that separates the petals. You could think that the result that we obtained isn't so significative, but here is what we found by studying other vegetables, like roses, artichokes and pineapples.
4
The rose petals are placed on different levels, too. These levels are more than the primerose ones, and just like in the primerose, the angle between the petals is of 140°.
5
And now, observing an artichoke, and especially the dispositions of the leaves on its stalk, guess what we found out? Exact, in this case too the measure of the angle of the development of the leaves is about 140°. But this isn't the end, you can find the same angle for the top leaves of a pineapple, and for a lot of other vegetables.
