LIGHT! SOL 5.2
2
What is Light? Light comes from atomic particles called “ Photons “ Light is also a wave, like sound.
3
Light continued Light travels in a ray. This is a straight line! There is no medium to carry light. It goes where it can!
4
Diffusion Light can be intense. The further away from light you are though, the weaker it gets. As light rays spread out the light gets softer, this is called diffusion.
5
Wavelength Light has wavelength too! This wavelength is weak on the right and strong on the left.
6
Visible Light Visible light is charted using a spectrum. Purple is on the left, red is on the right.
7
FYI Notice that Visible Light is only a tiny part of the light spectrum!
8
Invisible Light There is light you can’t see! To the left of the visible spectrum is Ultraviolet Light ( UV Rays ). This is what causes you to tan and sometimes sunburn!
9
Invisible Light To the right of the visible spectrum is Infrared Light. This light is used in things like night vision goggles.
11
Reflection All colors that you see are reflections. The object absorbs all light EXCEPT the color you see.
12
Refraction Sometimes light rays get bent, like through water or thick glass. This is called refraction.
