Nursery Curriculum News Literacy Our book this term is ‘The Tiger Who Came to Tea’ and we will use it to help us learn what characters are, what a plot, setting, title and blurb is and where the beginning, middle and end can be found in the story. We will learn to tell the story. In our phonics we will continue to listen to sounds in the environment and play lots of listening games. Please look on the phonics blog – Phases 1 to see some games you can play at home Physical Development We will continue to practise moving around the Nursery safely, indoors and out. In PE we move our bodies in different ways and finding a space. We will also be learning how to keep ourselves safe and healthy, talking about drinking water and eating our healthy snack. We will keep practising holding and using tools such as pencils, pens, scissors, glue sticks Personal,Social and Emotional Development We will continue to be practicing to develop routines; settle in to Nursery and make friends. We will be learning to play with others, share and taking turn and learn how to be independent and confident. Numeracy We will be looking at numbers and learning how to count a group of objects. We will learn to sort and practice our sorting by colour, shape, size, pattern, Communication and Language The termly focus will be encouraging good listening skills and enjoying stories. We will learn new words and practice using them. Understanding the World We are learning to notice features of objects around us and describe and talk about them; find about our own bodies and how we have changed; explore and talk about why things happen and how things work (eg using torches in the dark; stars and moon, shadows); talk about our families and describe our special times and celebrations (Diwali, Christmas, bonfire night, etc) Expressive Art and Design We will be learning to join in with singing songs; explore the sounds that instruments make; clap and tap rhythms; make drawings/paintings/models that represent something real; use our imagination in our play, pretending and making up stories; use a range of materials for creating. Dates for your diary: Tea Party – 9/11/2015 @ 10:45am Stay and Play Christmas Decoration – 3/12/2015 @ 10:30am Nativity Show– 15/12/2015 in the hall @ 10:00 am Christmas Party (with special visitor) – 16/12/2015 Things to do at home: Practise and learn how to do zips up. Read everyday and visit the library. Talk about what you can see all the time. Visit the class blog and talk about the days learning. Try leaving comments together. Week 1 Bonfire night celebrations and Firework dancing and art. Sorting colours. Week 2 The Tiger Who Came to Tea introduction. We will have a Tea Party on Monday for children and parents to make the children excited about their learning. Week 3 Continuing with The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Learning about real life tigers. Lots of counting this week. Week 4 More The Tiger Who Came to Tea. Learning about other big cats and even more counting. Week 5 The last week of The Tiger Who Came to Tea and the beginning of Christmas. This week we will have a decoration day for parents to attend. Week 6 Christmas fast approaching we will be practising our songs for the play, making Christmas crafts and learning the Christmas Story Week 7 We will have a Christmas Party with a special visitor. We will write invitations and make food ready for the party.
