The painting bump is made by using a series of 4 horizontal kicker stacks (KSW), outside of the injection region to produce a closed orbit offset of 35 mm at the injection foil. A few of the existing KSW magnets will need to be re-engineered and re-located. The present layout configuration and the electrical parameters of the KSW Painting Magnets will significantly change. PSB KSW Magnets September 10 th 2014L. Feliciano 3 Introduction

The original planning was made on the assumption that the magnets would be ready end 2014. 62% of the project has been completed. Nevertheless its not granted that we will be able to finish on the proposed date. In order to reduce the workload on the injection area during LS2, our proposal is to put in place the 16L1 magnets during the winter break: 2015/2016.16L1 magnets PSB KSW Magnets September 10 th 2014L. 9 As for the new hardware, the two major modifications that will come out are: – the 1L1 magnet stack will be removed from his present location to give room to the new injection system. – a new 16L1 magnet stack will be installed in between the bending magnet’s BHZ152 and BHZ161. – Other minor changes includes the move of the present 16L4 to replace the 2L1, which will be reconverted into spare. As a result, the outer magnets 16L1 and 2L1 will be mechanically and electrically identical. Likewise for the inner ones 16L4 and 1L4. All 8 new magnets as well as future spares will be equipped with new vacuum ceramic chambers. PSB KSW Magnets September 10 th 2014L. Feliciano 9 Hardware - layout

Half Magnets – All 16 half magnets assembled. – Both structure assemblies are finished. PSB KSW Magnets September 10 th 2014L. Feliciano 10 Hardware

Half Magnets – For the first two half's that were impregnated, the outcome was not acceptable: both connector were broken the other half shown deposit of silicone left over all around the magnet. – It was decided to create a cradle for the handling of the magnets and connectors protection. It is also done by us the isolation of the magnet for the impregnation. PSB KSW Magnets September 10 th 2014L. Feliciano 11 Hardware - issues

Ceramic vacuum chambers – Titanium deposit was not homogeneous. – No vacuum leaks were found. – Resistivity measurements shown that the values are out of spec. – Titanium deposit had to be removed at CERN due to incapability of the supplier to perform it, and then redone. 14 PSB KSW Magnets September 10 th 2014L. Feliciano14 Conclusions Two new sets of four magnets with RF screens will be built. The outer/inner magnets will be mechanically and electrically identical. The same approach will be followed for the inner ones. Although the project is late regarding to planned(end 2014), we still expect to be able to have the hardware ready before the 15/16 winter stop.
