4  According to some books, some Celts assumed a ghostly costumes to wandering spirits took them as his own and left alone. Others have tried to tame them using sweets. In medieval Europe, the Catholic Church adapted pagan customs and encouraged the faithful to walk in costumes from house to house and asked for small gifts
