Data and Tools What is DPS’ role? – Support UNODC and Member States in the implementation of the Classification Gradual modality According to country’s capacities, conditions, resources and timing Advantages: – Data coherence and comparability within and between countries – Common framework for the classification of data from administrative records and victimization surveys Estimate gap between reported and unreported crimes – Tool to standardize data gathering and dissemination between different criminal justice entities, levels of government and sources of information 8 International Classification of Crimes for Statistical Purposes

Data and Tools What is the CTS? – UN’s study on crime tendencies and functioning of criminal justice systems – 5 fixed sections with 164 indicator – 1 special section CTS 2015 special module on prisons What is DPS’ role? – Since 2010, DPS support UNODC in promoting the use of the CTS in the Americas – Monitoring, updating, processing and analyzing Extend and strengthen the use of CTS in the region

(objectives) – Consolidate CTS and SUT focal points – Support Member States in the implementation of the CTS – Increase number of countries that each year send the CTS – Improve the response rate of specific sections – Address jointly common difficulties and problems – Provide official data to the Hemispheric Security Observatory Extend and strengthen the use of CTS in the region
