Early “England” Evidence of “Britons” as early as 3800 B.C. Romans (Caesar) arrive in 55 BC. Caesar abandons the Britons not long after. So, they leave. They come back. Breakdown of Roman rule in 410. A Germanic people known as the Anglo- Saxons invaded the country. Christianization occurs around 600AD. Vikings attack Britain in 793. More power struggles between Anglo-Saxons.

In 1066, Edward the Confessor dies without a heir, and Harold Godwinson becomes king. Later that year, William of Normandy invaded England in what would be known as the “Norman Conquest.” Normans establish control of monarchy and upper class. Our “Present” Struggle

The Norman invasion of the late 12th century marked the beginning of more than 700 years of direct English and, later, British involvement in Ireland. Asserts full control in 1541. The conflict was the result of discrimination against the Irish nationalist/Catholic minority by the unionist/Protestant majority and the question of Northern Ireland's status within the United Kingdom.
