Clayton County Public Schools District Information – Population Shift from 1997 to 2010 Student enrollment increased 21% from 40,505 to 50,195 Caucasian students decreased to less than 2,000 from 15,000 Free/Reduced lunch increased 52% from 19,733 to 40,902 – Other Significant Information 5 th largest Georgia school district Unemployment rate March 2007 = 4.4; March 2010 = 11.6 Drop-out rate 28% higher than state average In 2001, 24 schools were Title 1; Today all 39 schools are Title 1

Clayton County Public Schools Loss of SACS accreditation in August, 2008 – School board declared dysfunctional and fatally flawed Regained provisional accreditation in April, 2009 – First district to gain provisional accreditation in 40 years – May 2010 SACS Report – Looking Good! 4/4 SACS recommendations implemented 6/9 SACS mandates completed 3/9 Mandates in progress

Clayton County Public Schools Implementation Plan – Organizing schools to transform teaching and learning Established expectations for school principals Hired mathematics coaches to oversee school-based implementation and support teachers Intensive professional development – Focus on utilization of data Saturday school Before/after school tutoring Matched students with demonstrated skill-specific needs with teachers demonstrating proficiency in teaching those schools Within and across grade team meetings led by coaches Coaches provided elbow to elbow instructional modeling

Clayton County Public Schools The Future – Investing in Innovation District application focuses on expansion of assessment and intervention model Math grades 1-5 entering 6 th year of implementation Regardless of outcomes of i3, expansion to middle school mathematics (grades 6 -8)
