Regional Strategic Analysis aNA Knowledge Support System – West Africa Page 21 CONCLUSION IN GENERAL MAPUTO TARGET MET ONLY IN SAHELIAN COUNTRY AND GHANA BY CURRENT FUNDING GROWTH RATES ONLY LIBERIA AND NIGERIA ON TRACK TO REACH THE 10 % TARGET IN 2020 AND JOIN THE FIRST GROUP INVESTMENT SHARES HIGHER FOR SAHELIAN COUNTRIES BUT SAHELIAN COUNTRIES DEPEND HEAVILY ON DONORS FOR AG FUNDING SHARE OF AG SECTOR STABLE AROUND 30 % AND SLIGHTLY HIGHER IN COASTAL COUNTRIES AGRICULTURAL GROWTH IN THE 1990’S AND IN THE 2000’S IN GENERAL LOWER THAN THE 6% TARGET
22
Regional Strategic Analysis aNA Knowledge Support System – West Africa Page 22 CONCLUSION CROP PRODUCTION CONTRIBUTES MOST TO AG GROWTH – LIVESTOCK IMPORTANT IN SAHELIAN COUNTRIES 1990-2008: LIMITED PROCTIVITY GROWTH FOR FOOD CROPS BUT AREA EXPANSION CONTRIBUTED MO0RE TO PRODUCTION INCREASES REACHING MDG1 IN WEST AFRICA IS JEOPARDIZED BY THE NEGATIVE PERFORMANCE IN THE 1990’S WITH POVERTY INCIDENCE INCREASES IN MOST COUNTRIES ONLY CAPE VERDE AND GHANA LIKELY TO MEET MDG1 WITH CURRENT POVERTY REDUCTION TRENDS NO OTHER COUNTRY WILL HALVE INCIDENCE POVERTY LEVEL OF 1990 HIGHER GROWTH RATES REQUIRED IN AGRICULTURE AND OTHER SECTORS
