2. Description  Tonsillitis- inflammation of the palatine tonsils, causing enlargement.

3. Causes  Tonsillitis can be caused by bacteria or by a virus.  The bacterial form is called strep throat

4. Treatment  If it is caused by a viral infection all you can do is do what you can to comfort it and wait 7 to ten days.  If it is a bacterial infection the doctor will just give you antibiotics.  If you have re-occurring tonsillitis You might have your tonsils removed

5. Surgery  Its called a tonsillectomy  One day surgery and about a week or more of recovery.

6. Progression  For the doctor to decide for you to have a tonsillectomy, you would have to have around 6 episodes of tonsillitis in 1 year or 4 each year for 2 years.

7. Tonsillar abscess  This is when a abscess forms on one of the tonsils causing pain, swelling, and blockage of the throat.

8. Tonsillar acretion  When bacteria trapped in the tonsils hardens and calcifies.  They can be removed at home or surgically or just left alone if the symptoms aren’t bad.
