A Comparison of SAT scores in Jefferson County The SAT scores are comprised of Science, English, Mathematics, and Reading skills tests. Computer integration in mathematics would raise scores.

Quotes from students “Sometimes we use computers for research or in our free-time, but not very often.” “We need better teachers and a lot more time on the computers.”

What would use of computers in the classroom do? The National Assessment of Educational Progress conducted a survey of over 7,000 eighth graders, and the results showed that those who had teachers who used computers as an aid for teaching higher-level mathematical concepts scored as much as half a grade level higher than those who didn’t.

What would need to happen for computers to be better integrated? Most secondary school teachers simply don’t have the training to incorporate heavy computer use into their lesson plans Obviously, the schools would need to buy more computers to use them widely throughout the building

How could the computers be used to enhance student learning Software, such as spreadsheets, could be used to teach accounting and bookkeeping concepts. Graphing calculators could also be used to help students learn mathematical concepts.
