Water Cycle How H 2 O moves through the environment

The Water Cycle

How the water cycle works The water enters through the air through evaporation and transpiration. In the cold air, the water condenses, and falls as precipitation. The water enters large bodies of water as well as collects in the groundwater to be later taken up by the roots of plants.

Definitions Transpiration: The evaporation of water from the leaves of trees. Very important source of water that enters the atmosphere. Groundwater: water that is located underground. Used by towns like Needham as a source for drinking water wells.

Biotic and Abiotic Factors Biotic Factors: –Trees, especially in the canopy of the rain forest. Abiotic Factors: –Humidity –Wind –Location of mountains

Review: Lipids Elements: CHO Basic Structure: –Triglyceride: Glycerol and three fatty acids. –Can be saturated (single bonds) or unsaturated (double bonds) Basic Function: –Protection (cell membrane) –Storage of energy (fat)

Acid Rain What makes acid rain? –When SO 2 and NO 2 gases are released into the air and form acidic compounds with the water in the air. How does acid rain affect living things? –Acid rain gets into lakes and rivers and the plants and animals that live there have difficulty surviving with a different pH
