3.  Most examples come from large scale infrastructure and civil works projects, such as roads, railroads, hydropower  “Ugly” refers to those situations where poor environmental performance results not from a lack of means, or for economic gains, but from disinterest and ignorance.  “Good / Bad / Ugly” was chosen to illustrate the possible range of implementation practice.

5.  Excessive spatial footprint, lack of soil and vegetation conservation and erosion control;  Poor design regarding long term environmental performance, impacts beyond construction period and project boundaries.  Lack of waste management, emission control and pollution management;

26.  EMP-Implementation, adherence to regulations and standards;  Single individual’s understanding and respect for valued environmental components, basic positive and responsible attitude;  General site management and good housekeeping, economic use of resources, corporate environmental / social policy;
