2. Being that I’ve never voted in my 22 years on this earth, today I was feeling more patriotic than ever before.

3. I was unsure what to expect. I did a quick Google search to prepare myself for the experience, and every picture I came across seemed to portray this event as something spectacular.

4. So much so that schools and many jobs were closed for this holiday.

5. I arrived at the polling location for where I live. The building was illuminated in the night.

6. I got out of my car and walked towards the entrance. I was finally here.

7. I was expecting to see a room filled with voters like this…

8. But this is what I actually saw…

9. Why was nobody here? Is it because the town I live in is so small? Maybe it’s because I showed up at 7PM and I just missed all of the crowds.

10. But this was not the case. According to the North Castle Daily News, the voter turnout was as low as expected. Based on the unofficial numbers from the ballots, only 19.7% of the registered voters participated. In comparison, according to the New York Times, New York State’s voter turnout was also low with 28.8%.

11. So I casted my vote, disappointed to say the least. However, knowing that my small town was not an outlier in the voter turnout, I happily drove home as an active member of the voting society.
