Aim “To bring together a number of previously disparate disciplines to advance theory and methodology and inform organisational practices an policy of LFI”

Objectives Bring together established and early-career researchers across Adult and Organisational Learning, Sociology, Psychology and Engineering Facilitate mutual learning across disciplines Facilitate co-production of knowledge between researchers and practitioners Develop an interdisciplinary research agenda in LFI Facilitate networking for preparation of funding bids and industry-academia partnerships in LFI Raise awareness of research among industry and policy- makers

Beneficiaries Established and early-career researchers from participating institutions Practitioners in energy, healthcare, construction, manufacturing, transport and other sectors – employees, managers, trade unions (S1 35%; S2 63%; S3 15%) Researcher and practitioner networks on related themes in participating disciplines Key associations and wider professional networks (iChemE, Safety and Reliability Society, TNO, etc.) Regulatory bodies (HSE, EPA, SEPA, NATS, etc.)

Impact Short-term (2013-2015): Building an understanding of LFI as a critical area of health and safety among practitioners and policy-makers Medium-term (2016): Application of theoretical and methodological insights from series to improve LFI in organisations (new methods, toolkits) Long-term (2017-2021): Establishing LFI as a research field; increasing effectiveness of LFI practice and policy
