Role Shifting ASL has different kinds of role shifting such as… –Shoulder shifting –Facial expression –Signing Style –And many more…. We will focus on using shoulder shifting to develop our use of space when signing.

Partner A The doctor said, “You have to wait, we can’t do anything right now.” The father exclaimed, “But you have to!”

Partner B The child lay in bed, “But mama, I’m sick. I can’t go to school today.” The mother looked surprised, “There’s no school today, it’s Saturday.” The child jumped up and ran out the door saying, “Feeling much better now.”

Partner A “Are you ready for the test?” the teacher asked. “Test?” “Yes, today there is a midterm.” The students frantically searched through their notes. “Just joking!”

Partner B The student looked at the note and raised their hand. “Yes,” said the teacher. “Umm, I have to go now.” “Where to?” “Principal Jaffe wants me in his office at once.”
