What are infinitives? Words that are most often used to name actions Verbs in English have different forms depending on who is doing the action or when the action is occurring: i.e. I walk, she walks, they walked, etc.

What is an Infinitive? The most basic form of a verb is called the infinitive In English, they are very easy to spot, because they have “to” in front of them: i.e. to swim, to read, to write

How to Identify an Infinitive in Spanish Infinitives in Spanish don’t have a word in front of them In Spanish, infinitives are only one word, and end in either - ar, - er, or - ir. escuchar (to listen) comer(to eat) escribir (to write)

Parts of an Infinitive in Spanish An infinitive has TWO parts: The stem which tells us the meaning of the word And the ending that is either - ar, - er or - ir and translates to the English word “to” H a b l a r stem ending
