3 Objectives WALT (We Are Learning To): – Understand what animation is. – Know where animation is used and what for. – Explore animation software. WILF (What I’m Looking For): – You know what Flash animation is. – You can create a simple frame-by-frame animation

4 Animation For us, an animation is made up of individual drawings put together to create a moving short film. An example is Steamboat Willie: The first ever animation released with sound, by Disney in 1928. Watch It!Watch It! You will now have a go, using flick books, I want you to make your own moving stick man. (Example)Example

5 Animation: Where and When? Why do we use animation? – Explain a concept – e.g. a diagram of how something works – Entertainment – movies, cartoons etc. – Interactivity – games, quizzes etc. Where do we use animation? – Online - websites, games, movies etc. – Mobile phones – menus, animations, games etc – Television – credits, cartoons, animations etc.

6 An Introduction to Flash CS3 Flash is an industry used animation program. It is a very powerful tool for animation. It is used world-wide. It can create a wide range of animations in terms of: – Games – Interactive Quizzes – Professional websites – Music / Movie players (e.g. BBC iPlayer)

7 The Interface Toolbar Timeline Action Frame panel, References panel, Properties panel. Color mixer panel, Color Swatches panel, Components panel and Answer panel. Stage Current Location

8 Things to Remember Toolbar: All the drawing and manipulation tools can be found here. Timeline: To be used for animation control as well as layers control. Stage: This is where all the “action” takes place. All animations and every other thing that you want to be displayed in your Flash Movie must be within this Stage.

10 Your Task Try to re-create your stick man flip-book inside Flash. Follow the help guide (Task 1) Extension (Level 5+): Try and add another layer and get more than one animation going on at once. Finished? Try Task 2 of the guide.
