Definition ZLinking verbs joins the subject of the sentence (nouns and pronouns) with a word or expression that identifies or describes the subject. ZThe subject be found before the linking verb because it links the subject to MORE information about the subject; info which identifies it or describes it.

Directions - pages 57-58 ZPlace a check beside the sentences where the main verb is a linking verb and underline the linking verbs. ZBe - am, is are, was, were, been, being ZOther linking verbs: look, sound, feel, grow, remain, stay, seem, appear, become and taste.
