2. Objectives Understand and identify the importance of verbs and their usage. Analyze a work of fiction for the effects of narrative techniques. Homework: Prepositions quiz 9/3(tomorrow!) Passage Packet 1 and Annotations due 9/4 Vocabulary synonyms and Antonyms Linking Verbs Worksheet(If not completed in class)

3. Warm Up Circle the subject Put parenthesis around prepositional phrases Underline verb and indicate Action or Linking 1.Paul built a doll house for Hayley. 2.The Club Members held a part in the park. 3.The audience cheered for their favorite actors during the play.

4. Vocabulary Groups We did a good job yesterday in groups, so get into the groups again. I will be coming around to check your homework. You must work and accomplish the goal in order to stay in the group. You have 10 minutes to complete lesson 1 synonyms and antonyms. Remember that I check for accuracy on homework so do a good job!

5. Linking Verbs A linking verb joins the subject of a sentence with a word or expression that identifies or describes the subject. Expresses a state of being. All forms of the verb to be are linking verbs. Ex: The teacher is cranky. (Is links cranky to teacher.)

6. Handy Tip for Linking Verbs Linking verbs are like the equal signs of language. (=) Any verb that can be replaced with is, am, are, be, become, or becomes to create a sentence with nearly the same meaning is a linking verb.

9. Now take a worksheet Work with your partner. You will need to complete the worksheet. If you have questions, ask your partner then me. Whatever is unfinished will be homework.
