Remember: Short vowels a, e, i, o, and u are often spelled with one vowel: math, smell, still,lock, luck.

Let´s practice to help you identify what short vowel sound you hear. But first: Read and listen to the instructions carefully: 1. Take a sheet of paper. 2. Divide the sheet of paper into five columns. 3. At the top of each column, write one of the five vowels. ( a e i o u ) 4. As you listen to the word, and its short vowel sound, write the word under the correct vowel. 5. Ready?

See how easy it was? You can practice with more words. Make the same chart, use other short vowel words and show it to your teacher. She'll be very proud of you!
