How it began… 1900s Parks Mill In 2010, the City began exploring with Martin Marietta the possibility of using a depleted rock quarry for the location of a reservoir Auburn lies within the Mulberry River basin. Within a reasonable distance of Auburn is a medium size river which could serve as a water supply, the Mulberry River at Covered Bridge Rd.

Background The City of Auburn wanted to become an independent water provider Auburn is currently a “purchase water system” Drinking Water is an important economic development Martin Marietta depleted quarry

Partnership City of Winder was already pulling from the Mulberry River. They had nowhere to store water Winder will utilize the reservoir during drought situations Cost sharing for building of infrastructure and operation costs City of Auburn will use 1.5 million gallons a day; Winder will use 3 million gallons a day during drought Reservoir will hold 1.1 billion gallons of water total

Helping Barrow County Estimated cost to the County to build a reservoir would have been between $70 and $100 million Helping Auburn Citizens Not reliant on another system for water supply Cost remains the same or lower than wholesale water prices Water supply project will be attractive for new development

Cost Auburn $7,600,000.00 Winder $21,000,000.00 Timeline The water supply project should be complete and online by February 2017
