8 www.GlobalFIA.com Supported Capillary Membrane Sampler (Conclusion) The SCMS can increase the reliability of sampling for many VOC’s by a factor of 10 to 100X compared to sparging and similar techniques. The SCMS is not a panacea. There are some molecules that don’t partition into the membrane material—research into other membrane materials is needed.

15 www.GlobalFIA.com Inline Filter (New Science?) To date, we haven’t found a sample that will irreversibly clog the filter elements, once a suitable backwash interval is identified. It appears to take longer to irreversibly plug a filter pore than it does to backwash it.

22 www.GlobalFIA.com Conclusions Supported Capillary Membrane Extraction increases sampling reliability for VOC’s by at least 10X. In-Line Filter Probe promises a similar increase in reliability for matrices requiring liquid analysis. Zone Fluidics provides a potential platform allowing complete automation of all fluidics functions. All of the above techniques have potential for incorporation into N.E.S.S.I.
