VOCABULARY Percent of change- the amount stated as a percent. This number has the ability to change (increases or decreases) Percent of Increast- The percent of change increases Percent of Decrease – The percent of change decreases

FINDING THE PERCENT OF CHANGE Percent of change = amount of change original amount

HELPFUL HINT** When a number is decreased, subtract the new amount from the original amount to find the amount of change. When a number is increased, subtract the original amount from the new amount.

FINDING PERCENT OF CHANGE For each percent of change. Round answers to the nearest tenth of a percent, if necessary. 27 is decreased to 20 27 – 20 = 7 Percent of change = 7/27 ~ 0.259259 ~ 25.9% The percent of decrease is approximately 25.9%

32 is increased to 67 67 – 32 = 35 percent of change = 35/32 about 1.09375 about 109.4% The percent of increase is about 109.4%

GREAT, SO NOW WHAT??? LET’S USE THE PERCENT OF CHANGE. The regular price of an MP# player at TechSource is $79.99. This week the MP3 player is on sale for 25% off. What is the sale price? Step 1 Find the amount of the discount. 25/100 = d/$79.99 write a proportion 25 x $79.99 = 100d set cross products equal 1999.75/100 = 100d/100 $20.00 ~ d The amount of the discount (d) is $20.00 Step 2 Find the sale price Regular price – amt. of discount = sale price $79.99 - @20.00 = $59.99

BUSINESS APPLICATION The amount of increase is also called THE MARKUP Winter Wonders buys snow globes from a manufacturer for $9.20 each and sells then at a 95% increase in price. What is the retail price of the snow globe?
