Little Known Fact Here is a little known fact about one of the Progressive Era Presidents.

Woodrow Wilson Most people know that Woodrow Wilson was President when World War II started.

But a lot of people do not realize that on the: 11 th our of the 11 th day of the 11 th month (1918) The Great War (WW I) ended!

Armistice Day Woodrow Wilson proclaimed on November 11 th 1919 that Armistice Day will be a day set aside to honor those who fought and won during World War I as a federal holiday. The day has since become known as Veterans Day (Nov, 11 th ) a federal holiday set aside to honor all who have fought for the freedom of our country. Not to be confused with Memorial Day (Last Monday in May) a federal holiday set aside to remember all who have died fighting for our country.

Veterans Day ??? From 1971 to 1978 the day of observance for Veterans’ Day was moved from November 11 th to the last Monday in October. In 1971 Congress passed and Richard Nixon signed the “Uniform Holiday Act” which moved the celebrating of four national holidays on Mondays: Washington's Birthday, Memorial Day, Veterans Day, and Columbus Day to encourage travel in the US.

11, 11, 11 Under President Gerald Ford Veterans’ Day was moved back to it original day of celebration November 11 th.
