The Importance of the Virgin Birth (continued)
3
1) To be our Savior by paying the penalty for our sins as a like kind sacrifice - humanity.
4
2) To be born like Adam was created spiritually alive, without a sin nature, qualified to be the perfect sacrifice.
5
The Sin Nature is passed down through the father, because of Adam’s original sin. Rom 5:12
6
Rom 5:12, “Therefore, just as through one man sin entered into the world, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men, because all sinned.”
7
The sin nature is referred to as the “Old Self” or “Old Man” in Rom 6:6; Eph 4:2; Col 3:9, and “the flesh” in many other verses.
8
As Adam was created with spiritual life, Jesus was born with spiritual life.
9
As part of the Angelic Conflict, being born with the Sin Nature means God righteously imputes Adam’s original sin to us at birth which then causes our spiritual death.
10
At birth we are born physically alive but spiritually dead, having no relationship with God and therefore no fellowship with Him.
11
Yet Christ was born of the Virgin Mary, to be the perfect sacrifice, one that has no sin of His own, so that we could have eternal spiritual life.
12
3) To be impeccable – the spotless sacrifice.
13
In His humanity, Jesus was born filled with the Spirit. He was born body, soul and spirit.
14
With His body, soul and spirit He remained impeccable throughout His life, which means He arrived at the Cross without ever committing one sin. Heb 4:15
15
Heb 4:15, “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”
16
To be the spotless sacrifice at the Cross, He had to start out with perfection, Heb 9:14; 1 Peter 1:19 compared with Num 19:2, 28:3, 9, 11, 17, 26, and remain that way.
17
For Jesus to be our sacrifice He had to remain without spot or blemish, no sin or sin nature.
18
As God, Jesus was, and will always be, without sin. He is impeccable and He cannot be tempted. James 1:13
19
James 1:13, “Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God”; for God cannot be tempted by evil, and He Himself does not tempt anyone.”
20
Therefore, God could not take on the sins of the entire world.
21
Yet as man, through the virgin birth, Jesus’ humanity could be tempted and therefore potentially sin.
22
Our Lord was clearly tempted by Satan to sin, and the temptations were all directed toward His deity. Mat and Luke chapters 4
23
That is why God became man, because in Deity alone He is both unable to be tempted and unable to sin. But in humanity, Jesus is both able to be tempted and sin.
24
Christ is lifted on high because He was tempted and yet was able not to sin. That is the glorious accomplishment.
25
Heb 4:15, “For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin.”
