-ARE verbs Le cose da imparare : Ascoltare, aspettare, e guardare: take a direct object and therefore are not followed by prepositions Ti aspetto. I wait for you. Non ascolterò la radio. I will not listen to the radio. Non ho guardato le foto. I did not look at the pictures.

-ARE verbs Imparare, (in)cominicare, insegnare take the preposition a before an infinitive. Incomincio a parlare in italiano. I am beginning to speak Italian. La signora imparerà a nuotare oggi. The woman will learn to swim today. Il professore ha insegnato gli studenti a guidare. The professor taught the students to drive.

-ARE verbs Pensare takes the preposition a or di depending on the meaning. Pensare a means to think about something or to think about someone. Io penserò alla mia mamma. I will think about my mom. Abbiamo pensato agli esami. We thought about our exams.

-ARE verbs Pensare di is always followed by an infinitive and means to think about doing something. Penso di mangiare un gelato. I am thinking about eating an ice cream. Penserei di giocare a calcio stasera. I would think about playing soccer tonight.

-ARE verbs To express purpose, (in order to) Italian uses per + infinitive Studierò per imparare. I will study in order to learn. Ho pagato il conto per partire dal ristorante. I paid the bill in order to leave the restaurant.
