Aspiring Writer After graduating in 1944, Lee went to an all-female college in Montgomery, Alabama. Lee stood apart from the other students- she didn’t care about fashion, makeup, or dating. Instead she focused on her writing. She transferred to the University of Alabama and was known as a loner and individualist. Here she eventually became the editor of the school’s newspaper, the Rammer Jammer. In her junior year, Lee was accepted into law school but later dropped out as she discovered that writing, not law, was her true calling. She moved to New York city to follow her dreams to become a writer.
