Using multimedia technologies to support learning The Three Little Pigs

There are many exciting and interactive ways in which ICT can be used in the curriculum to support other areas of learning.

Aim- To encourage confidant speech with SEN children through using easy speak. Becta suggest that Technology can help children with SEN overcome many of their communication difficulties, so they can be included in lessons, and access a wider curriculum.

While the majority of teachers (92% primary and 92% secondary) are interested in developing their ICT skills and knowledge, many non-computing teachers feel overwhelmed by developments. They worry about the pace of developments, feel they cannot cope with the jargon associated with computers, and generally worry about their own lack of skills and knowledge compared to that of their own pupils. (http://www.scotland.gov.uk/library/ict/appe nd-section5.htm)

We are starting to see more integration on new technologies such as mobile phones and computers, and it is difficult to predict how these changes will offer opportunities in school to develop learning and teaching. (Higgins,2004.p.43) ICT is becoming a big part of our communications, It is therefore crucial as practitioners to feel confident in teaching and using ICT to accommodate learning. It can give a different dimension to how children learn, they need variety in order for them to be interested.

Planning Phase1: listening and responding Phase2: planning Phase3: making and creating Phase4: construct scripts and retell story, record sounds Phase5: construct story boards (assesment) Phase 6: make animation

Phase1:We read the story of the Three Little Pigs using some props that had already been made as part of a story sack.

Phase2:We used a words and symbols program to make designs for the house’s

The children made story scripts to help them tell the story

Philpott (2001) suggests “Pupils like to hear their own voice. Creating audio offers them this facility by placing their voice in any number of different setting and contexts”. (p154)

Phase3:working progress

Story sequencing The children used a Widget programme to create a story board of The Three Little Pigs. They used these to help them order the images, these we downloaded off of a website www.sparklebox.co.uk
