Forms of Energy The student will recognize various forms of energy. SC.B.1.2.2
2
What is Energy? Energy is the ability to do work. Energy can be changed from one form to another so that people can do work more easily and live more comfortably.
3
FORMS OF ENERGY Light Energy Energy that travels in waves and does not require a medium. Wind Energy Energy produced from moving air. Solar Energy Energy produced from the Sun’s radiation.
4
FORMS OF ENERGY Sound Energy Energy produced by vibrations. Chemical Energy Energy involved in the reaction of molecules. Electrical Energy Energy produced from the flow of an electric current through a conductor. Mechanical Energy Energy gained from its motion or position.
5
Name that Energy Form Mechanical Energy Chemical Energy Light Energy Sound Energy Solar Energy Wind Energy Electrical Energy
6
Kinetic or Potential Energy? Kinetic Energy Potential Energy the energy of motion stored energy riding a roller coaster volcano erupting holding a bow & arrow a heart beating riding a bike rocks at the top of the mountain golf ball on top of a pin
7
A baseball flying through the air represents what kind of energy? Kinetic Energy When the ball is moving through the air.
8
Potential and/or Kinetic Energy? Potential Energy Kinetic Energy When the ball is thrown up in the air. When the ball is resting in the pitcher’s hand.
9
Potential and/or Kinetic Energy? Potential Energy Kinetic Energy The ball in her left hand. When the ball is moving down the lane and hitting the pins. Kinetic Energy Her right hand moving above the fan.
10
What type of energy does a kite flying through the air represent? Kinetic Energy
