Ordinarily, the term growth is used in a limited way to refer to increase in size and weight. Growth can be viewed as physical changes that occur from conception to maturity. Meredith, an authority on physical growth,has defined growth as, “the entire series of anatomical and physiological changes taking place between the beginning of the prenatal life and death”.

The term development means a progressive series of changes that occur in an predictable pattern as a result of maturation and expressions. Biologically, Development does involve growth in early life stability in early adulthood and the decline related with aging in the later life.

Learning is a process acquiring new skills of awareness as a result of certain experiences. It is a process of modification in behavior.

Chronological age means the age of a person recorded in years,months and days. It begins from the day when a child born and is calculated till one dies. It is a legal criterion of classifying a person as a child,or an adolescent, a major or a minor.

Anatomical age refers to the growth and development of the skeletal system. Through X-Rays,the development in the skeletal system can be determined. Through dentition test the age of a participant is determined.

The age is related to physiological capacities and capabilities of children. Normally it is related to puberty. Secretion of hormones from various glands and functional condition of the organs is taken into account while calculating the age of a child.

Mental age is related to the mental development of the child that is mental maturation. Physical maturity and mental maturity are two different things. Through psychological test, one can determine the mental age of boys and girls. This will help the teacher a coach to adjust his method and techniques of teaching training.
