Factors contributing to an increasingly sedentary lifestyle More variety of leisure activities available, such as watching TV and playing computer games Safety risks of young people being away from parental control, so young children play less actively than they used to Children do not walk to school as much as they used to Curricular and extracurricular time given to physical activity has decreased, as well as some theory work being introduced into PE lessons There is a particular problem among teenage girls, whose participation levels drop dramatically due to social pressures and the perception of sport being unfeminine
