Write down the most important thing you learnt yesterday. Explain why this was the most important thing you learnt.

Analysing pendulums Objectives: Be able to carry out a practical to investigate pendulums. 12 March 2016
3
Outcomes All Must Be able to measure time period and frequency for a pendulum oscillation. Most Should Be able to carry out a practical safely and make a conclusion. Some Could Be able to explain how the period of a pendulum changes with the length of the pendulum.

Pendulum - Investigation AIM – to see how the length of a pendulum effects the frequency. 1.Take a pendulum, a stopwatch and a clamp stand and investigate how changing the length of pendulum effects the time period, T. 2.Write down a prediction before you start. 3.Record your results in a table. Make measurements of l, length of pendulum, t, (time for 10 swings), T, the time period for 1 swing and then calculate f, the frequency for each result and add a column for this. Write down the units at the top of each column. 4.Take repeat results and calculate a mean. 5.Take 5 different readings. 6.Draw a graph of length (x-axis) and frequency (y-axis) 7.Write a conclusion and state whether it matched your prediction. 8.Explain why you got this – use page 161 to help. Extension – why would changing the mass of the pendulum bob have no effect on the time period?
