Lesson 5: How to Interpret Relationships Between Variables
2
Content Standards and Objectives 6.EE.9 (CCSS 6.EE.C 9) Use variables to represent two quantities in a real world problem that change in relationship to one another. Write an equation to express one quantity thought of as the dependent variable in terms of the other quantity thought of as the independent variable. Analyze the relationship between the dependent and independent variable using graphs and tables and relate these to the equation.
3
Defining Success Identify Independent and Dependent Variables Write equations to represent scenarios, tables, and graphs Interpret graphs
4
Identify Independent and Dependent Variables The boat is traveling 37 miles each hour Independent Variable: hours spent traveling Dependent Variable: miles traveled
5
Writing Equations The boat is traveling 37 miles each hour. Hours Traveled Distance Traveled 00 137 274 3111
6
Writing Equations x = number of hours y= the distance travels 37x = y
