Dilations
2
Dilation To make a figure grow or shrink base on a point of location Using scale factors discussed previously
3
If point is Origin 1.Write down all the ordered pairs of original figure 2.Multiply each coordinate in the ordered pair by the scale factor and write new ordered pair 3.Plot new ordered pair
5
If point is not the Original 1.Draw new x and y axis through the new point 2.Find coordinates of figure base on new origin 3.Multiply both x and y coordinate by scale factor, write new ordered pair 4.Plot new ordered pair from new orginin
6
Dilation point (5,2) Scale Factor 3
7
Another Way 1.From point of Dilation draw frays through all vertices of figure 2.Measure distance from point to vertices 3.Apply scale factor and more new points on ray
8
Dilation point origin Scale factor 1.5
9
Finding point of Dilation 1.Draw rays connecting corresponding vertices 2.Where rays intersect is new point of dilation
11
Finding Scale Factor 1.Find length of corresponding sides 2.Set up ratio or original to new, this should be scale factor You could also do this with corresponding vertices You could also draw the ray connecting vertices and compare those measurements
