Useful Abbreviations IC = Independent Clause CC= Coordinating Conjunction SC= Subordinating Conjunction (Because) DC= Dependant Clause

Compound Sentences Compound Sentences join two independent clauses The clauses can be joined by either – ; (Semi colon) –, (Colon) followed by Coordinating Conjunction (For, And, Nor, But, Or, Yet, So) The Georgia Bulldogs colors are red and black; the mascot is UGA X The family is very excited to be going to Disney World, and they are leaving in the morning.

Complex Sentences Complex Sentences joins an independent clause to dependant clause Clauses can be joined in two ways – Subordinating Conjunction (Because) in middle of sentence – Subordinating Conjunction and ; (Semicolon) between the DC and IC Because the car is new; he will have to make car payments. The boy received a smiley face because he had good behavior.
