DASC Background l DASC (Design Automation Standards Committee) founded in 1985 - http://www.dasc.orghttp://www.dasc.org l Chartered under IEEE Computer Society l Responsible for the promotion and development of standards for the Design Automation Industry l First major work was VHDL - first standard non-proprietary hardware design language l Work on language based design continued with Verilog and Analog Mixed-signal versions of VHDL and Verilog. l Scope of work has broadened to include system level design, low power, and a recent emphasis on IP standards l IP-XACT from SPIRIT, IP encryption, IP quality
3
DASC Membership l Membership has continued to increase and also increased in diversity l Total membership ~100 l 39 separate affiliations l Roughly 50% from EDA companies l Remaining 50% from users, other standards organizations, universities l All major EDA companies and many large user companies are represented.
4
New Activities – Active Standards Program l VHDL 1076-2008 approved - new features for verification and IP based design l VHDL-AMS 1076.1 standard approved l e Verification language P1647 updated and approved. l Three new WGs approved l P1801 - Design & Verification of Low-Power IC’s (UPF) l P1778 – Esterel v7 LRM (formal semantics for design) l P1699 – Rosetta System Level Language l Two new IP related Working Groups started l IP Encryption l IP Quality l Expanding activity into important area of IP standards l Standard for IC Delay and Power Calculation, P1481 in ballot l Extends calculation models to latest sub-micron technology l Total of 13 Technical Standards Groups Active Now.
5
New Activities - Operational l Maintaining schedule of monthly meetings since Nov 2006 l Ensures a forum for raising and quickly dealing with any issues l Has encouraged greater participation – all major participants have been active l Meetings conducted formally and per P&Ps l Material on new IEEE patent policy and dominance policy made generally available l Closer tracking and posting of member affiliations l Greater awareness of patent issues among members l Posting of up to date roster and status on web site
6
DASC Plans l Continuous improvement of governance, outreach, and growth l Refinement of Policies and Procedures to meet changing industry needs including patent and IPR protection. l Broadening technical areas to include more physical design aspects as these become more important and integrated into the overall design and manufacturing process. l Strengthening relationships with other industry and standards groups l Currently close ties to Accellera, JEITA, SPIRIT, IEC, OSCI, IEEE-SA l Looking to do expand ties to China and Korea Standards Groups l Encouraging broader membership by being responsive to new industry requirements. l Provide both Entity (corporate) and Individual Working Groups and Ballots
