1. Give some examples of the changes taking place on Animal Farm. 60 hour work week Work on Sunday afternoon – voluntary, but any animals that don’t participate will have rations cut in half

2. What shortages began to occur? Paraffin oil, nails, string, dog biscuits, and iron for the horses’ shoes (couldn’t be produced on farm)

4. Describe Whymper and his role. He was a “middle man.” (Intermediary between animals and the outside world) Sly looking, little man, intelligent

5. What did the pigs do that caused some controversy? They moved into the farmhouse to live.

6. How were their actions explained? The pigs, who were the brains of the farm, needed a quiet work place suited to their dignity.

7. How is the windmill’s destruction explained? Snowball destroyed the windmill by creeping in at night to avenge his being expelled from the farm.

8. Why do you think Napoleon gave that explanation rather than the real one? Animals would be discouraged Napoleon would lose their faith and loyalty

9. How is the fourth commandment changed? No animal shall sleep in a bed with sheets.
